Mission Statement:

The mission of 17th Street Studios is to host artists in Knoxville with studio spaces and a working community. The studios fulfill Redeemer’s vision by serving the local fine art community. These studios will serve as a creative space for artists to develop their art practice and fulfill their calling.

 

Relationship between Redeemer Church and 17th Street Studios:

Redeemer Church desires to engage the local art community by hosting the 17th street studios. The relationship between the artist and the church is one of hospitality and respect. The church desires to support the artists of the 17th street studios, however it does not endorse any artist or the works of any artist. The artists appreciate the opportunity to use the space to further the development of their art careers, however they are not required to endorse the specific vision or practices of Redeemer Church.

Criteria for renting a studio:


1) Completion of application form

2) Interview

3) Approval by the Studio Director

4) Studio Orientation

4) Agreement by signature to follow all set policies

 

Location:

At Redeemer Church, on the second floor above the small chapel. 10 spaces are available to artists.

 

Studio Details:

Studio Details:17th Street Studios is a private workspace for artists and is not open to the public. The studios are located on the second floor of the west wing of Redeemer Church. Each studio is approximately 12x10' and there are three common spaces for artists to use with homasote for art display. There is a communal micro-fridge, Wi-Fi, free parking, and recycling and trash service. All studios are secure behind a locked common area door, and the exterior door to the church is locked except during special events. Most but not all individual studios have doors. Some studio doors require a padlock to be locked. There is no HVAC or restroom on the same level as the studios. One common area has an A/C window unit. All studios but one have metal casement windows that can be opened. Space heaters are allowed in the winter. Bathrooms and sinks are located one floor below. Rent is paid to Redeemer for housing artists. There is an annual maintenance fee. Rent: $40/month + a yearly maintenance fee of $120 (single space) or $200 (double space).
